Consult NowCSA expansive agent is a high-efficiency shrinkage-compensating material formulated by blending carefully selected natural anhydrite with a specially manufactured clinker composed primarily of calcium sulphoaluminate and free lime (CaO). It is designed to be used in combination with ordinary Portland cement.
When mixed in appropriate proportions and hydrated, the expansive agent reacts during the early stages of cement hydration, generating controlled expansion within mortar or concrete. When restrained by structural or formwork conditions, this expansion effectively offsets drying shrinkage, thereby improving dimensional stability.
At higher dosages, CSA expansive agent exhibits pronounced expansive behavior, making it particularly suitable for applications such as prestressed and post-tensioned concrete where controlled expansion and internal stress compensation are critical.
Key Technical Advantages
● High Expansion Efficiency
The expansive agent delivers a strong expansion response. Under standard water immersion conditions, the 7-day limited expansion rate reaches 0.15–0.20%, which is approximately 4 to 8 times that of conventional expansive agents.
● Controlled Expansion Rate
Expansion develops progressively and predictably. By day 3, over 70–80% of total expansion is achieved, exceeding 85% by day 7, ensuring stable volume compensation during the critical early hydration phase.
Even under conditions of absolute humidity, the product maintains effective expansion behavior, supporting dimensional compensation in moisture-rich applications.
● Excellent Long-Term Stability
The expansive performance remains consistent over time, with no significant loss in effectiveness, ensuring durability and structural compatibility in long-service-life applications.

● Formulation of High-Performance Mortars and Grouting Materials
Suitable for preparing various specialized mortars and expansive grouts that require volume stability and controlled expansion performance.
● Structural Concrete for Waterproofing Applications
Used in concrete structures where internal expansion enhances water tightness and long-term impermeability.
● Concrete Systems for Crack Control
Applied in general concrete works to reduce shrinkage-induced cracking, especially during early-age curing.
● Mass Concrete for Shrinkage and Seepage Reduction
Effective in large-volume pours to offset thermal and drying shrinkage, helping control cracking and seepage risk.
● Pile Foundation Construction
In pile applications, internal expansion improves soil contact and structural stress transfer, potentially reducing material usage and construction time.
